Hi Ranj, could you please help me and my husband settle an argument. He hates when I step out of the shower onto the bath mat to dry off, leaving it wet. I think that's what the bath mat is for. Who's right? -- SARAH IN HORSHAM, PA.

Hi Sarah, You are both right to a certain degree. The bath mat is for the remaining water that may come out of the shower with you, however, I believe the point your husband is trying to make is that you should dry off as much as possible before leaving the shower or tub and stepping on to the bath mat. Stepping immediately onto a bath mat without drying could cause the water to escape the absorbant mat and spill out onto the tile or carpet. If this happens you could slip onto the wet tile or the carpet could become moldy. Note that the bath mat could also get moldy so after you have finished drying off, the bath mat should be hung up to dry.
